· Chela was looking to lift his fourth career title (Mexico City 2000; Amersfoort 2002; Estoril 2004) in his seventh final.

· The Argentine, who is 15-5 at the Abierto Mexicano, won the 2000 edition (d. Mariano Puerta) and reached the semifinals on two occasions (2002&2004).

· The 26-year-old from Buenos Aires, who reached the fourth round at the Australian Open earlier this year, defeating Lleyton Hewitt, is 11-6 in 2006.

· On his way to the final Horna defeated Lukas Dlouhy, Juan Antonio Marin, Agustin Calleri and Gaston Gaudio while Chela took care of Juan Monaco, Tomas Behrend, Alessio Di Mauro and Nicolas Alamagro.

WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID:

Chela: “I am still very happy, this has been a great week for me. I think Luis played a great match. I had my chances in the first set, I was up a break on two occasions.”

“Today I lost against a great player and a great friend, and I am glad he earned his first career title against me in the final.”

“I am leaving on Monday for Indian Wells and Miami. My goal is to be in the Top 20, and I now have to get used to hard court again because there are many important tournaments coming up in this surface. Hopefully I can win a few matches there.”

Horna: “ Winning your first title is an important moment in your career, and winning it at such a great event as Acapulco is even better. No doubt that I will always remember this moment. “

“The key in today’s match was that I was fit, after the long match I had yesterday, and that I served really well. I also had a little luck in the important moments which helped me to close the points.”

“Indian Wells and Miami are coming up next. I don’t expect anything there, I just want to play my best tennis and no doubt that this week in Acapulco is great for my confidence.”

Cermak: “I am very happy we won this title. As usual we had a difficult match against Volandri and Starace, but we were able to come through.”

“This has been a great swing for us, we won two titles and reached one final.”

“We are now going to Indian Wells and Miami and we hope to have some good results in these ATP Masters series events.”

Friedl: “We are very happy to have won here. We really enjoy this tournament, we feel very comfortable here.”

“Today we had a difficult match, especially in the first set. The key was when we lost my serve and were able to break them right back in the next game.”

“We look forward to Indian Wells and Miami.”
