Kuerten to miss Roland Garros |
(Press release) -- After two long and cold months in Colorado, US, undergoing hip treatment with Dr. Marc Philippon, the same doctor who performed his second hip surgery in September 2004 (the first one was performed by Dr. Thomas Byrd, in Feb. 2002), three time French Open Champion, Gustavo Kuerten landed in Rio de Janeiro yesterday, where he conducted a busy press conference at the Sheraton Barra Hotels & Suites.
Guga announced he will have to skip his favorite tournament, Roland Garros, but said he is confident he will be able to come back to his top form and also introduced physical therapist Nilton Petroni, known as File, the same one responsible for soccer’s star – Ronaldo’s successful rehab, as a new member of his team.
The Brazilian idol didn’t set up a specific tournament where he will be back competing, but said he expects to be on the tour again in the second semester. “I don’t have a specific date yet, but I know that before July I won’t be competing,” said Guga, who will keep working with coach Hernan Gumy and fitness coach, Fernando Cao.
“It is very sad that I will miss Roland Garros. But missing it I think says a lot about what I am looking for with this treatment. I don’t want to be back on the courts with 60% of my form. I want to be competing again when I am 100%. I want to be smiling on court, fighting with the best players, like a gladiator, without limitations.” |
