University at Buffalo womenıs tennis
team got back into the winning column on
Saturday afternoon as the Bulls defeated
Ball State, 6-1. The win completed UBıs
road schedule as the Bulls are now 11-4
on the year and 4-1 in conference play.
The Bulls took the doubles point as they
claimed victories at first and third
doubles. UBıs number one team of Denise
Harijanto (Jakarta,
Indonesia) and Diana Popescu
(Alexandria, Romania/AL. I. Cuza)
defeated Georgina Thomson and Dena
Boulieris, 8-2 to extend their winning
streak to eight. At third singles, the
duo of Anna Subenkova (Riga, Latvia) and
Aleksandra Petrova (Sofia,
Bulgaria/Logos International) defeated
Rachel Surowiec and Hanna Oman, 8-3.
In singles play, UB won five of the six
matches as all of the matches ended in
straight sets. Harijanto shut out her
opponent at first singles as she
defeated Sarah Hebble, 6-0, 6-0. Senior
Smaranda Stan (Sfantu Gheorghe,
Romania/Economic) also made short work
of her opponent at she defeated Kylee
Johnson, 6-0, 6-1. At second singles,
Popescu defeated Boulieris, 6-3, 6-1,
while Petrova picked up a straight sets
victory at fifth singles over Thomson,
6-2, 6-1. Also victorious was junior
Diana Toia (Rochester,
NY/Brighton) who defeated Hayley Hall at
fourth singles. Toia won the first set
6-4 before Hall retired in the second
set with Toia up 3-2.
The Bulls wrap up the regular season
with three straight home matches.
The Bulls begin that with a rematch of
last yearıs MAC Championship as the
Bulls host Western Michigan on Friday at
1:00 pm.
