ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. –
The TCU women’s tennis team
advanced to the finals of the
Mountain West Conference Women’s
Tennis Championship with a 4-1
win over No. 6 seed Utah Friday
morning at the Jerry Cline
Tennis Center in Albuquerque,
N.M. The Horned Frogs (15-10)
will take on the winner of the
New Mexico/UNLV semifinal match
tomorrow at 10 a.m. MT.
Clinching the victory for TCU
was Kayla Duncan who defeated
Utah’s Leigh Walsh at the No. 4
singles position, 6-3, 6-3.
The Horned Frogs started the
match by clinching the doubles
point with wins from 24th-ranked
Anna Sydorska and Macall Harkins
and the duo of Katariina
Tuohimma and Duncan at No. 1 and
No. 2 doubles, respectively.
Finishing first in singles play
was Harkins as she defeated
Utah’s Erin Monson 6-3, 6-2, at
the No. 2 position.
Also victorious on the singles
court for TCU was Tuohimma who
defeated Evegina Kryuchkova,
6-2, 6-2, at No. 3 singles.
The lone win for Utah came at
No. 5 singles with Lexi
Provancha defeating Idunn
Hertzberg, 6-3, 6-4.
This marks the second year in a
row the Horned Frogs have
advanced to the finals of the
Mountain West Conference
Tournament. The Horned Frogs
fell to UNLV in the championship
match of the 2008 tournament.
TCU also advanced the to the
championship match of the 2006
tournament, defeating BYU, 4-0.
