Federer Was Wary Over His First Round Match at Rotterdam
It
may have looked like an just another easy opening-match win, but Roger
Federer carried huge personal and fan expectations into his first-round
victory over Nicolas Mahut at the ABN-AMRO World Tennis in Rotterdam.
The Swiss took to the court knowing that first-round success would take
him into the quarter-finals with intended second-round opponent Mikhail
Youzhny already withdrawn due to a foot problem.

Monfils Out of San Jose and Memphis; Roddick Nearly the Same
France's
chronically inured Gael Monfils pulled out of San Jose and Memphis with

seed Andy Roddick, who rolled his right ankle in the second set of his
6-7, 7-6 6-4 victory over American Denis Kudla.

American domination continues its fade in the sport. But the final straw
for the one-time fireball of the 1970s and 1980s can be seen in
television view numbers.
"If
you had told me poker would out-rate tennis 25 years ago, I would have
laughed at you," the 52-year-old told local media as he prepared for an
exhibition hit-out prior to the start of the ATP San Jose event in
California.
