Fish Likes Being
USA’s Number One Player
Mardy
Fish is comfortable in his role as the American number one, but it has
also made him very aware of how well Andy Roddick carried the flag for
so long.
"Well, it's
been a little while now," he said. "It feels like and it certainly is
different than my past being the third or fourth or 10th American at
times. There is not nearly as much pressure."
Djokovic
Trying to Avoid “Beating Last Year”
Novak
Djokovic is dealing with the pressure of trying to repeat what he
achieved in 2011 by treating it as just another season.
"To be
honest, I'm not really comparing 2012 with 2011. I'm not comparing any
year with another year, because I think year is different," he said
after beginning the defense of his Dubai Duty Free Championships title.
Federer
Was Oh So Close
Roger
Federer came within just one week of equaling Pete Sampras’ reign of 286
weeks as world number one. So close and yet so far, does it keep him
awake at night? It appears not.
"It doesn’t
come to my mind," he said. "It would be great having that record, but my
life is very much okay without it too. Pete’s a good friend of mine and
he was an amazing champion for our game, and I don’t need to break every
record he has."
Chang Says He Has
Been Trying to Help Basketball Player
Michael
Chang has revealed that he has offered advice to New York Knick’s point
guard Jeremy Lin, who has been taking the NBA by storm, helping him deal
with the pressures and media attention that came his way.
"I’ve had
some contact with Jeremy," confirmed Chang while he was competing the
ATP Champions Tour event at Delray Beach. "We have kind of a similar
background. We’ve both come from a middle class family and I know Jeremy
had a really great high school career and obviously did really well at
Harvard.
Sabatini Honored
by Hall of Fame in Buenos Aires
One
of the most popular women's tennis players of her time, Gabriela
Sabatini of Argentina was also one of the most successful, being ranked
within the world top-10 every year from 1986-1995, capturing a major
title in singles and doubles and earning an Olympic medal. In 2006,
Sabatini received the highest honor in the sport of tennis-induction to
the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
In a special ceremony
at the Copa Claro tennis tournament in Buenos Aires, this achievement
was celebrated once again when Sabatini was presented with her official
Hall of Fame ring, a one-of-a-kind piece that is being presented to Hall
of Famers at tennis events around the world over the next several years.
