Four
years after tasting a world No. 1 ranking, Jelena Jankovic is determined
to try and regain those heights as the Serb re-boots her tennis by
bringing in a new coach and trainer.
The current 14th-ranked player on the WTA has not enjoyed her slide down the table, with not even a Top ten standing to console her. Jankovic owns 12 titles but lifted her last two years ago in Indian Wells where the 27-year-old is making a return this week after reaching the weekend in Kuala Lumpur.
Jankovic has recently hired a new coach, Henner Nehler, a former University of Nevada player. "He's a young guy, and usually you have the older coaches with a lot of experience on the tour. But he's motivated and he has other qualities other than experience. We'll see how it goes. It's tough to predict the future."
“There is also a new fitness trainer to help in the comeback effort. "I have a new team, and we were working during the off-season a lot trying to make some changes . . . you have to still try and improve some things."
Jankovic's generation
has been left behind in the rush to quality from younger girls
including Caroline Wozniacki, Victoria Azarenka and Petra Kvitova.
