Sunday Women's Summary
Doubles - Final: (5) Kirilenko/Petrova def. (6) Errani/Vinci
7-6(7-0) 4-6 10-4 (Match TB)
Now here is a statistic to think about: Errani/Vinci won
only 49% of first serve points in this match. In
doubles.
Which perhaps explains a little. The two have seven
titles together in the last two years, but every one of
them has been an International. They really struggle in
the big ones.
To be sure, Nadia Petrova has just plain struggled in
doubles lately. This is her first doubles title in
almost two years; her last was Charleston 2010 with
Huber. Her singles seems to be stalled, but this has to
feel promising. It's promising for another reason for
Maria Kirilenko: Her first doubles title of the year,
and the best of her career, will put her back in the TOp
Ten.
