Saturday Summary
Singles - Semifinal: (5) Serena Williams def. (2)
Samantha Stosur 6-1 6-1
No doubt Serena Williams was extra motivated for this
match, which she called one of her best ever, but we
have to think this had more to do with the very long day
Samantha Stosur had the day before. It makes no rankings
difference; Stosur remains #5, and Serena cannot rise
above #9 this week.
Singles - Semifinal: (9) Lucie Safarova def. (14) Polona
Hercog 6-0 6-0
This, sadly, looks more like the Polona Hercog we saw
early in the year. It appears she will be at #36. We
show Lucie Safarova at #23; a title would make her #22.
Doubles - Semifinals: Pavlyuchenkova/Safarova def. (1)
Huber/Raymond 6-4 7-6(11-9)
Only on clay... as it is, Huber/Raymond almost overcame
a set and a break lead. It doesn't affect their top
rankings, of course.
To make an obvious observation, it will be quite an
Easter Sunday for Lucie Safarova.
Doubles - Semifinals: Medina Garrigues/Shvedova def.
Grandin/Uhlirova 6-1 6-3
Let's hope Yaroslava Shvedova can take this into her
singles as well.... She and Medina Garrigues are the
obvious favorites in the final; apart from the fact that
Lucie Safarova will be tired, Medina Garrigues/Shvedova
are much higher ranked.
