E Boks Open
Copenhagen
Monday Summary
Barcelona featured mostly small names in qualifying.
Copenhagen, by contrast, had an amazingly big one. Anna
Chakvetadze was in the draw -- unseeded. At least she
was able to take advantage, upsetting top qualifying
seed Lesia Tsurenko 5-7 6-4 6-2. #2 qualifying seed
Melinda Czink managed to qualify, but the other two
qualifiers, Annika Beck and Johanna Konta, were
unseeded.
Singles - First Round: Alberta Brianti def. Kristina
Barrois 6-2 3-6 6-4
Kristina Barrois remains stuck below #100.
Singles - First Round: Timea Babos def. Kimiko
Date-Krumm 1-6 7-6(7-4) 7-5
This won't put Timea Babos in the Top Fifty, but it
looks as if it could happen soon.
Singles - First Round: (WC) Yulia Putintseva def. (WC)
Karen Barbat 6-4 7-5
Both players in this match are wildcards, but Yulia
Putintseva -- although incredibly inconsistent -- has
had some pretty good Challenger results. This is no
surprise.
Doubles - First Round: Cornet/Parmentier def. (1)
Groenefeld/Martic 6-4 6-3
Doubles - First Round: (2) Rodionova/Rodionova def.
Marosi/Woerle 6-2 2-6 11-9 (Match TB)
Doubles - First Round: Arvidsson/Kanepi def. Abramovic/Jeflea
6-4 6-2
Doubles - First Round: Dekmeijere/Kondratieva def.
Keothavong/Savinykh 0-6 6-4 11-9 (Match TB)
Doubles - First Round: Larsson/Woehr def. (WC)
Ejdesgaard/Wozniacki 6-2 6-4
It seems pretty safe to say that Denmark won't be
winning any Olympic medals in doubles....
