It really did look as if John Isner was going to lose another chance to become the #1 American. But this lasted more than two and a half hours, and Isner never seems to get tired. Eventually he wore Feliciano Lopez down -- and that appears to move him past Mardy Fish into the #9 ranking.

Michael Russell led 2-0 in the final set, but he had had a very long week; maybe he ran out of steam. That left Juan Monaco waiting for Feliciano Lopez to find out if he would clinch the Top Fifteen or if it would be settled in the final. At it turns out, it's Monaco. He is up to #15, with Feliciano Lopez falling to #16.
