Sunday Summary
Singles - Final: (7) Sara Errani def. (3) Dominika
Cibulkova 6-2 6-2
Anyone who thinks that Dominika Cibulkova cured her
finals-itis by winning her first title last year
obviously didn't see this. It took just over an hour,
and Sara Errani dominated it totally. Not too
surprising, given that Cibulkova won only 14% of second
serve points, and put in only 46% of first serves! Two
of Cibulkova's four games came on breaks. Hard to win a
title when you can't hold!
That costs Cibulkova her Top Fifteen chance. Ana
Ivanovic will remain #15 for now.
Sara Errani picks up her second title of 2012 (following
Acapulco), and the fourth of her career. All have been
International/Tier III or lower, and all but one on
clay, but hey, they're titles. And she is climbing as a
result. We show her up to #28.
Singles - Final: (1) Errani/Vinci def.
Pennetta/Schiavone 6-0 6-2
What a day for Sara Errani! Two titles, and she lost
only six games! Although it's no surprise for Errani/Vinci
this year; they have three titles (Monterrey, Acapulco,
and Barcelona), and eight in just over two years. Now if
only they could win a big one! They've reached the stage
where winning International titles makes no appreciable
difference; this title is worth 280 points, and they
have 225 in their eleventh events. So they won't move.
