Seeds Announced
for 2013 Fed Cup Draw on June 6
The
ITF has announced the seeds for the Draw for the 2013 Fed Cup by BNP
Paribas that will take place during Roland Garros at the
Musée de la
Fédération Francaise de Tennis in Paris
on Wednesday,
June 6 at 12:00 local time (10:00 GMT).
The four seeded
nations in the 2013 World Group are:
Czech Republic (1)
Serbia (2)
Italy (3)
Russia (4)
Nadal Wins 8th Consecutive Monte Carlo Title
Rafael
Nadal has rekindled his long-time love affair with the Monte Carlo clay
by winning his eighth straight title in the principality.
His 6-3, 6-1 hammering of emotionally drained opponent
Novak Djokovic - the Serb lost his grandfather last week but played on -
marked the first time in post-1968 Open tennis history that the same
player had won an event eight times.
Odesnik Keeps Moving Ahead
Wayne
Odesnik may not be the most popular man among his American peers, but
that hasn’t stopped him from continuing his career on the ATP World
Tour. After reaching the semis of the USTA Sarasota $100,000 Challenger,
Odesnik has a chance to crack the top 100. He also has a chance to win
the USTA Roland Garros wild card if he continues his solid play.
Williams Plays Fed Cup in Ukraine and is Now Eligible for
Olympic Consideration
Serena
Williams has worked the rules to her favor again to insure the chance at
London Olympic selection by playing and winning a Fed Cup rubber at the
weekend.
The one-time No. 1 crushed unknown Ukrainian teenager
Elina Svitolina 6-2, 6-1 in an away tie in the country's second city of
Kharkiv. Just by playing, Williams is now eligible under Olympic rules
to compete in London.
Simon: Pressure on Djokovic
Gilles
Simon, who lost to Rafael Nadal in the semis of Monte Carlo, was
prescient before the Spaniard met up with No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the
final of Monte Carlo. The Frenchman noted that the Serbian has all the
pressure on him this year and was due to come back down to earth.
Djokovic had beaten Nadal seven consecutive times before the Spaniard
turned the table on him and won Monte Carlo on Sunday.
