A cheap win, but it takes Lukasz Kubot quite close to the Top Fifty.

Singles - First Round: P Starace def. (9) J Chardy 6-3 6-0
The amount of seed promotion this week has been amazing: Two at Barcelona, one here. And, in each case, the last guy promoted has paid for it. Jurgen Melzer pulled out of Bucharest, and #5 Marcos Baghdatis was promoted to become the de facto #4, and Chardy took Baghdatis's spot. He probably wishes he had been able to stay where he came from....

Singles - First Round: M Bachinger def. F Volandri 3-6 6-1 6-3
Filippo Volandri was defending semifinalist points, so this is going to cost him several ranking spots.

Singles - First Round: X Malisse def. G Dimitrov 6-2 6-4
Xavier Malisse seems to be on a bit of a roll all of a sudden. But we've no idea whether he can keep on it.
