Tuesday Summary
Singles - First Round: F Gil def. (12) M Granollers 6-2
6-2
It would seem this place jinxes anyone named Granollers.
This means no Top 25 spot for Marcel.
Singles - First Round: (13) K Anderson def. M Jaziri 6-2
6-3
Kevin Anderson needs two more wins before the points
start counting -- but if he can get that far, he is
likely to hit the Top Thirty.
Singles - First Round: (15) B Tomic def. E Gulbis 6-3
6-4
Bernard Tomic is now up to about #32 in safe points. His
chances of a Roland Garros seed look pretty good.
Singles - First Round: (16) P Andujar def. (Q) D Goffin
7-6(7-2) 6-4
It has been a big month for Pablo Andujar, but for the
moment, he doesn't earn any points.
Singles - First Round: (17) A Ramos def. A Beck 4-1,
retired (back)
Not yet enough points to count for Albert Ramos, but
he'll be pretty close to the Top Forty if he wins his
next match.
Singles - First Round: G Garcia-Lopez def. O Rochus 6-3
6-3
A bit of an upset, based on current rankings. On the
other hand, neither of these guys likes clay much, and
Guillermo Garcia-Lopez at least has the advantage of
being a Spaniard.
Singles - First Round: (Q) R Farah def. (LL) A
Brugues-Davi 6-4 7-6(7-3)
Robert Farah lost all four of his ATP matches last year,
so this has to feel good!
Singles - First Round: V Hanescu def. R Machado 6-3
7-6(7-5)
If we counted right, Rui Machado has now lost his last
eighteen ATP matches. Hard to believe he is still Top
Hundred.
Singles - First Round: M Kukushkin def. D Gimeno-Traver
6-2 6-3
Mikhail Kukushkin seems to like the big events; he has
six wins this year, and all are at 500 point events or
better: Australian Open, Monte Carlo, and here.
Singles - First Round: F Cipolla def. P Lorenzi 6-0 6-3
Paolo Lorenzi has now lost seven of his last eight
matches.
Singles - First Round: I Andreev def. D Junqueira 6-2
6-3
Diego Junqueira falls to 1-3 in 2012.
Singles - Second Round: (2) A Murray def. S Stakhovsky
6-3 6-2
Evidently Andy Murray -- who lost much too soon at Monte
Carlo -- just needed a little more clay practice....
Singles - Second Round: (6) N Almagro def. E Roger-Vasselin
7-5 7-6(7-3)
The points are already starting to count for Nicolas
Almagro, but he needs at least two more wins to rise in
the rankings.
Singles - Second Round: (9) F Verdasco def. S Darcis 6-3
6-1
No points yet for Fernando Verdasco -- he needs a
semifinal to do him any good.
Doubles - First Round: Elgin/Istomin def. (WC)
Cervantes/Granollers-Pujol 6-7(5-7) 6-3 10-8 (Match TB)
Doubles - First Round: Erlich/A Ram def. Ramirez
Hidalgo/Schwank 7-6(7-5) 7-6(7-4)
Ironic: Schwank the doubles specialist won in singles,
lost in doubles.
Doubles - First Round: Butorac/Soares def. Lipsky/R Ram
6-3 6-3
Doubles - First Round: Haase/Nieminen def. (WC)
Gimeno-Traver/Montanes 5-7 6-3 10-4 (Match TB)
