Grand Prix de SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem
Singles - First Round: (2) Svetlana Kuznetsova def.
Eleni Daniilidou 6-1 7-5
Svetlana Kuznetsova has plenty of room to add points, but she will need at least a final to return to the Top 25.
Singles - First Round: (3) Petra Cetkovska def. (Q) Melinda Czink 6-4 6-2
No points yet for Petra Cetkovska, but her Top Thirty spot looks pretty secure -- indeed, she appears likely to rise a little.
Singles - First Round: (5) Simona Halep def. (WC) Fatima Zahrae El Allami 6-1, retired (GI Illness)
The sarcastic part of us can't help but think that if a country wants to offer wildcards ranked below #750, there should at least be an obligation that they be healthy. It's not fair to award points for wins over them otherwise. To be sure, Simona Halep doesn't earn anything that counts as a result of this win. But one more would put her very close to a return to the Top Fifty.
Singles - First Round: Arantxa Rus def. (7) Klara Zakopalova 6-4 5-7 7-6(11-9)
This was the match that was suspended at 5-5 in the third the day before. They seemed to be trying to make a full-length match of it today, too. This will cost Klara Zakopalova at least one, and possibly two, ranking spots.
Singles - First Round: (8) Shahar Peer def. Magdalena Rybarikova 5-7 6-3 7-5
One more win might put Shahar Peer back in the Top Fifty. Can she win another match after this, though? It took two hours and fifty minutes.
Singles - First Round: Laura Pous-Tio def. Olga Govortsova 6-2 6-1
A technical upset, but Govortsova was unable to play reverse singles in Fed Cup, so this isn't too surprising. She did at least win in doubles.
Singles - First Round: Timea Bacsinszky def. (Q) Arina Rodionova 2-6 4-0, retired (left wrist)
These days, Timea Bacsinszky will take points any way she can get them. She will probably rise more than 100 places, leaving her a little below #450.
Singles - First Round: (Q) Garbine Muguruza Blanco def. Anna Tatishvili 7-5 5-7 6-4
Garbine Muguruza Blanco is struggling a lot on the clay, but she still keeps climbing....
Singles - First Round: (Q) Kiki Bertens def. Urszula Radwanska 6-4 7-5
Kiki Bertens scores one of the better results of her career -- but she will move only slightly, because she was defending 24 points.
Singles - First Round: (LL) Mathilde Johansson def. (WC) Nadia Lalami 6-1 6-1
As we said yesterday, Mathilde Johansson truly was lucky in her draw.... If she can somehow win one more match, she'll be on the brink of a return to the Top Hundred.
Doubles - First Round: (3) Bratchikova/Jurak def. Lee-Waters/Moulton-Levy 7-6(7-5) 7-5
Doubles - First Round: (4) Govortsova/Savchuk def. (WC) Czink/Scheepers 6-1 6-3
Doubles - First Round: U.Radwanska/Tatishvili def. Husarova/Marosi 5-7 6-1 10-8 (Match TB)
Doubles - First Round: Babos/Minella def. Cabeza Candela/Pous-Tio 6-3 6-1
