Wednesday Summary
Singles - Second Round: (WC) T Haas def. (1) J Tsonga
6-1 6-4
Was it the clay? Or Tommy Haas? Or did Jo-Wilfried
Tsonga suddenly realize that he wasn't going to earn
anything that mattered this week? Whatever the
explanation, he became the only singles seed to lose
here. But his #5 ranking is thoroughly secure.
Singles - Second Round: (3) M Cilic def. M Bachinger 6-3
6-2
Marin Cilic has a lot of holes in his point total -- in
the departments for big events. Not so much in small.
This doesn't help him. But he should gain a ranking spot
or more with each additional win.
Singles - Second Round: (6) M Youzhny def. S Giraldo
6-7(2-7) 6-4 6-4
Like Marin Cilic, Mikhail Youzhny is still catching up
with his eighteenth event score. But any additional wins
count. And he'll be just below the Top Thirty even if he
doesn't win any more.
Singles - Second Round: (8) M Baghdatis def. (Q) D Brown
1-6 6-4 6-4
Same story: No benefit for Marcos Baghdatis yet. But the
next win counts.
Doubles - First Round: Brown/Waske def. (2) Marach/Peya
7-5 6-1
Pretty good for Dustin Brown, considering what he went
through in singles.
Doubles - First Round: Malisse/Norman def. (3) S
Gonzalez/Kas 6-3 7-6(7-5)
Doubles - First Round: (4) Cabal/Farah def. (WC) Brands/Krawietz
5-7 6-2 10-7 (Match TB)
Doubles - First Round: Cilic/Zovko def. Matosevic/Tomic
6-4 6-4 .
