Obama Joins Team
USA to Encourage Millions of Youngsters to be Active in 2012
First
Lady Michelle Obama joined U.S. Olympians, Paralympians and London
hopefuls to announce a nationwide commitment to get more than 1.7
million American children active as part of her Let’s Move!
initiative to solve the problem of childhood obesity in a generation.
Through commitments
to the Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) organizations will
provide beginner athletic programming to more than 1.7 million kids in
2012. PHA has also created a website,
www.ahealthieramerica.org/olympics, to help families find affiliated
sports programs in their area.
Williams Looks
Ahead to Paris With Confidence
Chances
on the clay of the French Open have improved considerably for Serena
Williams as she continues to dominate on her Tours in the run-up to
Roland Garros.
"Roland Garros
conditions are much different from here. Conditions are different every
week on clay. Definitely my goal is to do well in Paris."
Federer is Waiting
to Enter Rome
Roger
Federer is waiting until the last possible moment to see how his body
pulls up after the rigors and strains of winning the Madrid Masters last
week on controversial blue clay. The Swiss was reportedly nursing some
hip and back pain after his efforts, with movement on the slicker blue
being much changed from the classic style required on red.
Martin to Launch a
Jacksonville Academy
Former
American ace Todd Martin, who retired in 2004, is preparing to start a
new career working with juniors, and setting up an academy in the
Jacksonville, Florida, area. The 41-year-old believes that despite the
world-spanning nature of modern tennis and the distractions suffered by
young Americans, the sport can still grow in his native land.
