Sharapova Wants a
Few Days Off to Celebrate French Win
Maria
Sharapova is taking a handful of days off to quietly celebrate her
return to the world No. 1 ranking. But the start of the pre-Wimbledon
grass season necessarily means that her break will be short and sweet.
"I'm actually
debating with my coach whether I should have three or four days off,"
said the LA-based Russian who won Roland Garros over Italy's Sara Errani
6-3, 6-2. "I'm going for four, he's going for three, which is very
typical.
French Open Champion Nestor Doesn’t Expect Any Extra
Celebrating
Daniel
Nestor may have won his third straight French Open doubles title but
that didn't mean that the low-voltage Canadian was in the mood to do any
extra celebrating after he and Max Mirnyi beat the Bryan brothers 6-4,
6-4 in the final.
"You don’t want to take your clothes off and start
dancing around the court when you win,” said the dead-pan veteran, whose
78 doubles titles are the most in history. “We have a lot of respect for
the opposition today.”
Nadal Understands the French Open History of a Long Lunch
No Matter What
Rafael
Nadal laughed off the rows of empty seats at the start of his French
Open semi-final with David Ferrer, with the knowledge that a long lunch
takes precedence early afternoon tennis at Roland Garros.
The second seed said that the 1 p.m. start was without
doubt the reason for the absentee spectators. "The timing probably
wasn't the best. 1:00 is probably not the best timing," he said. "That's
the reason, in my opinion. I've played almost every day but I can't say
every day with a full court.
Nadal and Moya Stop at Sponsor’s Booth at Tournament to
Say Hi
Last
week at the French Open, Rafael Nadal and Carlos Moya stopped by the
Babolat booth to say hi to their proud sponsor.
After a friendly meeting, the two major Spanish champions
took advantage of this opportunity to sign Babolat's special guest book,
which also contains the autographs of the legendary musketeers!
