Fish Says He is
Coming Along
Heart-scare
American Mardy Fish says that he is slowly recovering confidence at
Wimbledon after a medical procedure to correct a heartbeat gone wild.
The 30-year-old American stressed that it is taking time for him to be
fully at ease with his health even though doctors have given him the
all-clear.
Odesnik is
Eligible to Return to the Tour
Wayne
Odesnik, the South African-born Floridian-based player whose two year
ban for admitting possession of the banned human growth hormone (HGH)
was halved by the International Tennis Federation, has strenuously
denied he has agreed to deal to be a whistleblower on his fellow
professionals.
The sentence was
halved because the ITF’s disciplinary program states that part of an
athlete’s ban can be suspended “where the participant has provided
substantial assistance” in uncovering other offences.
British Fans are
Delighted With the Performance of Heather Watson
Aside
from the Wimbledon exploits of Andy Murray, most of the domestic British
headlines are annually centered on the failings of home-grown players.
But Heather Watson, the former US Open junior champion trained at Nick
Bollettieri’s famed Florida academy, rewrote a little bit of British
tennis history.
In reaching her first Grand Slam third
round by virtue of a 6-1, 6-4 victory over American Jamie Lee Hampton,
the 20 year-old Watson became the first British woman to make the last
32 here since Elena Baltacha ten years ago. The Channel Islands-born
player also became the first Brit to defeat two top 100 players at the
All England Club since Sam Smith in 1998.
Haas is Still
Upset About High German Olympic Requirements
Former
No. 2 Tommy Haas says he's hurt by a snub from German Olympic selectors
which has resulted in him being cut out of any chance for a wild card
entry into the London Games. With national authorities applying hugely
strict selection rules, the 34-year-old who won the Halle grass title
over Roger Federer this month was not nominated and was therefore not
even in contention for a wild card.
