Monday Men's Tennis Summary

Singles - First Round: (5) M Klizan def. (WC) D Thiem 6-1 3-6 7-5
Dominic Thiem falls to 1-4 in his ATP career.

Singles - First Round: J Zopp def. (6) G Garcia-Lopez 6-1 6-3
Guillermo Garcia-Lopez has had some decent clay results over the years, but he just can't seem to be consistent on the stuff. Of course, he won't have to worry about it for another half year or so.

Singles - First Round: (Q) A Veic def. (8) B Kavcic 6-1 6-2
Blaz Kavcic now has a three match losing streak. Antonio Veic earns his first ATP win since Belgrade.

Singles - First Round: (Q) A Balazs def. (WC) M Fischer 6-3 1-6 7-6(7-2)
Attila Balazs has only three ATP events -- but he has four wins and only two losses. Interest results, at the very least.

Singles - First Round: F Volandri def. A Giannessi 1-6 6-4 6-3
Filippo Volandri breaks a five match losing streak that hit his ranking hard this week (see the Feature).

Doubles - First Round: Bednarek/Kowalczyk def. (3) Kohlmann/F Mayer 6-1 6-2

Doubles - First Round: (WC) Kohlschreiber/Tumphart def. Rosol/Zeballos 5-7 6-4 10-5 (Match TB)
This is hard to believe. Philipp Kohlschreiber played last week. He's playing on grass next week. And he signed up for singles and doubles here, and the doubles with an unknown?

Doubles - First Round: Norman/Waske def. Ramirez Hidalgo/Ramos 7-6(7-2) 6-2

Los Angeles
Singles - First Round: R Ram def. (8) (WC) B Baker 7-6(7-3) 7-5
On grass, this would be no big surprise. But it's pretty shocking on a hardcourt. Making it more interesting is the fact that Rajeev Ram is making a run at the Top Hundred. This probably won't be quite enough, but one more win would surely do it.

Singles - First Round: P Capdeville def. I Kunitsyn 6-4 7-6(7-5)
A big, big day for Paul Capdeville: He breaks an eleven match ATP losing streak (assuming we counted right), going back all the way to Santiago 2010.

Singles - First Round: F Cipolla def. (WC) J Sock 6-3 6-1
A real disappointment after Jack Sock's success at Atlanta. It appears this will leave him still below #250.

Singles - First Round: Kamke/Phau def. (2) Ebelthite/Marray 6-2 1-6 11-9 (Match TB)
As you can probably tell by the fact that Ebelthite/Marry were the #2 seeds, the doubles draw here is very weak. So this may not be our last upset....
