Here is a Tennis Man of the Ages
I
have long believed that in tennis and in life nothing happens until
someone serves. The Tennis Industry must believe that too, for on August
24 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York an induction ceremony will be
held honoring Nick Bollettieri as its newest member.
Tennis Favorites at Olympics Are Winning
It's
so far, so good for Roger Federer and Serena Williams as the Grand Slam
pair aim to duplicate their recent Wimbledon titles with career-first
singles gold medals at the London Olympics.
Both multiple champion came through swirling windy
conditions at the All England club in second-round matches. Between them
Federer and Williams own 31 career singles trophies at the majors.
Fish Leads The Field in Washington
Mardy
Fish heads a field of Olympic exiles and wannabes as the 13th-ranked
American plays under the radar as top seed at the new combined ATP-WTA
event in Washington, with the veteran happy enough not to be involved in
the London Games.
Delhi to Host 2012 India Open
The
India Open will mark the return of professional women's tennis to India
since 2008 (Hyderabad from 2003-2005, Bangalore from 2006-08).
The India Open will be the region's second event as part
of the WTA Challenger Series, as Taipei will play host to the inaugural
tournament.
Editor’s Note
In Monday’s Daily Tennis News about Elena Baltacha’s
future involving ankle surgery, we erred in identifying her first
Olympic match as a loss. In fact, she won. We apologize for the error.
