Federer To Study His Current Situation
Roger
Federer is trying to digest one of his worst losses of a successful
summer season and said he needs to re-assess his game after exiting in
the US Open quarter-finals to Tomas Berdych.
"I've got to go back to the drawing board from here and
see what's really the priority," said Federer, who had been bidding for
an 18th Grand Slam trophy but still retains a strong grip on the top
ATP ranking.
Last-Minute Decision leads To US Open Mixed Doubles Title
The
US Open mixed doubles champions, Bruno Soares and Ekaterina Makarova,
entered the team competition at the last minute -- quite literally,
according to Soares.
"Five minutes to go, I'm here in the referee's office and I find out
Katia is practicing in the park," said Soares. "So I had to run --
actually, my coach did that. He went running all the way over there and
talked to her and called me like 30 seconds to go and said, You can
sign. So very last minute, 11:59, I signed us in. I guess it work out."
Break Pays Off For Berdych
After
defeating Roger Federer in the quarterfinals of the US Open, Tomas
Berdych says that a mid-season break helped him be ready of a strong
performance at the year's final major. "I took a break after Wimbledon,"
he said. "Because after the first, I would say, half of the season,
which was quite hard for me and I felt quite tired then. You know, I
made it like as a decision."
Errani Breaks With Her Doctor
US
Open semi-finalist Sara Errani has had her joy at reaching the last four
in New York tainted by continued connections between the 25 year-old
Italian and the Luis Garcia del Moral, the doctor who received a
lifetime ban from United States Anti Doping Agency after his work with
Lance Armstrong's US Postal cycling team.
“Of
course, I will not work anymore with him. He was the best doctor in
Valencia for everything, so I have been working with him. But now his
name is not good name, so I don't want to dirty my name for his name.”
