Federer Gets Death Threat
Security
at the Shanghai Rolex Masters is always extremely tight but it will be
intensified still more after world no.1 Roger Federer has been the
target on an online death threat. Both the Shanghai police and
government agencies have been alerted to investigate the threat after an
unknown blogger said he planned to "assassinate" the 31 year-old Swiss
in a threatening posting on a much visited Chinese website.
Kerber, Kvitova And Errani Qualify For Istanbul
The
WTA announced that Germany’s Angelique Kerber, Czech Republic’s Petra
Kvitova and Italy’s Sara Errani have qualified for this year’s TEB BNP
Paribas WTA Championships, which will be staged at the Sinan Erdem Arena
in Istanbul, Turkey. The WTA’s year-end finale, to be held from October
23-28, will feature the world’s top eight singles players and top four
doubles teams, competing for the coveted title and a share of $4.9
million in prize money.
Murray Watched His Brother Win US Open On TV And Went To Bed
Jamie
Murray, back alongside his US Open winning brother Andy to defend their
Rakuten Open title in Tokyo this week, revealed he watched Britain’s
biggest tennis triumph in 76 years quietly in his Luxembourg hotel and
celebrated by simply switching off his bedroom light.
The
elder Murray sibling was battling towards a doubles final on the second
tier Challenger circuit in the small Luxembourgian town of Petange. One
brother pocketed $1.8 million for his labors, the other earned $1,400
for a week’s work.
