Stomach Virus
Causes Nadal To Withdraw From Abu Dhabi
Rafael
Nadal has made a late withdrawal from the Abu Dhabi exhibition starting
on Thursday, citing a stomach virus. The No. 4 last played six months
ago when he lost early at Wimbledon and has not been back on court since
due to a left knee injury which he insists is fine now.
Del Potro Will
Not Play First Round Davis Cup Tie With Germany
Argentina
will be without Juan Del Potro after the national No. 1 came good on his
vow to skip the opening round, to be played against Germany February
1-3. The decision was barely a surprise for Argentine tennis, where Del
Potro and Davis Nalbandian are hardly on speaking terms and the
atmosphere in the Davis Cup squad is reportedly chilly at best.
Hewitt: Doping
Suspensions Need To Be More Harsh
Lleyton
Hewitt says that one of the problems with drug testing on the ATP Tour
is that the lengths of the sentences for those who are found guilty are
too short.
Sharapova
Knows It Will Be A Tough 2013, But She Is Ready
Maria
Sharapova has some ground to make up as she starts 2013 hopefully locked
in a battle of elites at the Brisbane tournament also featuring rivals
Serena Williams and No. 1 Victoria Azarenka.
The LA-based Russian has not beaten Williams since
2004 and lost four of six meetings against Azarenka, including the
Australian Open a year ago. But hope is not lost for Sharapova, richest
woman's earner in all of sport.
