World TeamTennis Monday Tennis Results

The Washington Kastles started the 2013 Mylan World TeamTennis season just the way they ended 2012 - with a win.  The Kastles 23-15 win over the New York Sportimes on Monday night in Washington, DC, was the team's 33rd consecutive victory, tying the U.S. major pro sports team record set by the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers.  Among the capacity crowd on hand to watch the Kastles receive championship rings in a pre-match ceremony and tie the Lakers mark was Mylan WTT co-founder Billie Jean King, NFL great John Riggins and CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer.  The Kastles were led by Martina Hingis who dominated Anna-Lena Groenefeld 5-1 in women's singles, and partnered with Leander Paes for a 5-4 mixed doubles win.

Although injured and unable to play, Venus Williams was on hand to receive her 2012 Championship ring and cheer on the team from the bench.  Earlier in the day, Williams joined her 2012 Championship teammates Paes, Anastasia Rodionova, Bobby Reynolds, Coach Murphy Jensen, owner Mark Ein, Mylan WTT CEO/Commissioner Ilana Kloss and King at the White House for a visit with President Obama.

The Kastles try to make sports history and break the mark on Tuesday evening at home when they host the Boston Lobsters at 7:10 p.m. ET.  The July 9 match will air live on Tennis Channel.  For more information, visit
