Possible Second Thoughts for Bartoli

When Marion Bartoli announced her retirement from tennis just 40 days after winning the Wimbledon ladies singles title, there was a widespread belief that it would only be temporary and the Frenchwoman would return to the game in time to defend her title next year.

Nadal: Playing More Aggressive Means You Are Playing Well

Rafael Nadal was pleased to hear that Novak Djokovic had high praise for this recent play but said that the while the Serbian’s analysis that his hard court success is coming from being more aggressive has some merit, the Spaniard believes that being in good form trumps style. Nadal who is coming off of back to back titles in Montreal and Cincinnati, is considered by many to be the US Open favorite.

Murray Says No Extra Pressure On Him As He Defends A Major

Andy Murray insists he can't feel much extra pressure as he heads into his Wednesday title defense start of the first grand slam title of his career. "I think there is less pressure.  I think before the first match and probably anything before the first match there will be nerves there," said the Scot in the run-up to Flushing Meadows. "I expect to be pretty nervous because it's a new experience and it's different.

New Security Measures At US Open

The USTA announced that new security measures have been added to the 2013 US Open. Guests will need to proceed through magnometers upon entering the grounds of the USTA Billie Jean King National Center.  Fans should anticipate slight delays upon entering the grounds. Once on the grounds, security procedures will remain the same as previous years for entry to all stadiums, buildings and outer courts.

Melzer Credits New Coach Blanco For Tour Success

Austrian Jurgen Melzer has kick-started his tennis with perfect timing as he heads to the US Open with a fifth career title in hand after winning the Winston-Salem Open when Gael Monfils had to retire with an abdominal muscle injury which prevented him from serving. The title marked only a month into the new coaching relationship with Spaniard Blanco, who until May worked with Milos Raonic.

Ex-Coach Sanchez Tells Murray To Fight For The Number One Ranking

Andy Murray's ex-mentor Emilio Sanchez, who ran the Barcelona academy where the once-scrawny Scot learned the game after transferring from the chill of his native Scotland as a teenager - is urging the US Open champion to fight for the No. 1 ranking.

Jack Nicklaus Is More Interested In Tennis Than Golf Now

What if golfing legend Jack Nicklaus ended up playing tennis instead of devoting his career to draining long putts? Would he have 18 Grand Slam titles playing with yellow balls rather than white ones?

“As a kid I played a little bit- not much- my dad was a good tennis player,” Nicklaus told CNN’s Open Court. “He was the city tennis champion in Columbus when we grew up in Ohio but he didn't play a lot of tennis at that point in his life but as a kid he introduced me to every sport so he taught me just enough about tennis to make me dangerous. So I start hitting around playing tennis and fooling around and I would have an odd guy here and we would start playing a bit and then pretty soon I got interested and played a little bit more and that was just about the time I started combining Wimbledon and the British Open and I came over and I watched John Newcombe win it [in the UK].”
