Tomic To Be Barred From Australian Open
Tomic may have escaped jail for his much publicized violent altercation
with his son’s former practice partner in Madrid but he continues to be
ostracized from the game and Tennis Australia has announced he will be
blocked from attending next January’s Australian Open.
Injury Forces Nalbandian To Retire From The Tour
Nalbandian, in the eyes of many respected judges, the finest all-court
player in recent years never to have won a Grand Slam singles title, has
announced his retirement at the age of 31 after a persistent battle to
overcome a shoulder injury.
Troicki To Protest His Innocence In Anti-Doping
Viktor Troicki says he is hopeful that justice will somehow be served
when he appears before the Court for the Arbitration of Sport on October
9 in Switzerland to protest his innocence in a controversial anti-doping
incident last spring.
China Counting On Zhang Shuai
already has a Grand Slam singles champion in Li Na, but the country’s
top singles player is aging and there is hope that Zhang Shuai will be
the next player out of that country to have major impact on the tour.
The 24 year old recently won Guangzhou and reached the final of Ningbo,
pushing her ranking to a career high No. 66. Her compatriot, Zheng Jie,
says that she has top 30 potential.
