Novak Djokovic: "It was a great experience again in Shanghai with a thrilling performance from both my opponent tonight and myself. I think the tournament had a fantastic final. I'm just very glad to go out as a winner from the court tonight from such a close match.

"My motivation is always there, especially when I'm playing [in the] finals of such a big event. I wanted this title as much as my opponent. That's what's going to stay forever."

On del Potro: "I would say he's a fantastic player and a great person. He showed that again. He has a really likable personality. He's a big fighter. With his serve and his game, for his height, he moves extremely well."

Juan Martin del Potro: "The match was really close and I think Nole played unbelievable points in the tie-break. The match was so exciting. I was really close to beating him after beating Nadal. At Wimbledon [in July], we played another fantastic match.

"I think I'm playing even better than 2009 or 2008 or last year. I couldn't win a Grand Slam [title] like I did in 2009 [at the US Open], but I reached finals in the [ATP World Tour] Masters 1000s. I already won three tournaments. I beat the top guys, which is fantastic for me."

On qualifying for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals: "I'm so excited to be there. It's a fantastic tournament. I'm going to be part of eight players fighting for the same goal. I think it's like a gift for me because I did so well this season. I think it's a big chance to close a fantastic year."

Ivan Dodig: "We're looking forward to having another great experience after this title and play in the last eight teams in [London]."

Marcelo Melo: "It feels great. [We had] a couple tough matches against Roger [Federer and Ze Zhang] in the first match [and] the Bryans [in the semi-finals]. We are happy to win here in Shanghai."
