Federer Feels Strong At The Beginning of the French Open

Roger Federer heads into French Open buoyed by the birth of a second set of twins in the family and feeling perhaps his strongest on clay in several seasons. Andy Murray has had to postpone his ambitious goal of finding a coach before the French Open start as the Scot admits that it is taking more time than expected to line up a new mentor after splitting with Ivan Lendl two months ago.

Unlikely winners Sam Querrey and John Isner both produced surprises with opening wins at the French Open, by far the worst of all the grand slams for the US. Querrey, who beat Italian Filippo Volandri, admitted that he might have shocked even himself as he won on the opening Sunday.

The Mecir Name Stirs Memories At Roland Garros

The name of Miroslav Mecir is recalled with a kind of reverence at Roland Garros after the Czechoslovak, known as the Big Cat entranced finessed his way to the 1987 French Open semi-final without dropping a set.
