Nadal And Verdasco Don’t See To Eye With Umpire Maria

Frenchman Pascal Maria has long been regarded as one of the most respected umpires in world class tennis after being in the chair for the 2008 Wimbledon final between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, widely considered to be the greatest match in tennis history.

However at the current French Open he has been the subject of intense criticism from both Nadal and his Spanish compatriot Fernando Verdasco.

American Star Tiafoe Loses In Second Round Of French Open Boys Tournament

With American tennis desperate for a male superstar to fill the void left by champions like Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi and Andy Roddick, enormous focus is being exerted on Francis Tiafoe. Vessa Ponkka, senior coach and director of tennis at the Maryland Junior Tennis Champion’s Center where Tiafoe is based even referred to him as a ‘perfect storm of potential.’

Unfortunately the storm blew itself out as early as the second round of the French Open boys singles as Tiafoe, the 16 year-old Orange Bowl and Easter Bowl champion, suffered a massive blow to his fast growing reputation as he lost 6-3, 2-6, 3-6 to Germany’s Jan Choinski.

Petko Has Given Up “The Petko Dance”

Andrea Petkovic has given up the "Petko dance" victory celebration made famous in her younger, pre-injury days after revealing she never really wanted to do it in the first place. The German is now concentrating on being fit and back on court and into the quarter-finals of the French Open for the second time.
