French Open Is Implementing A Go-Green Effort

The French Open is implementing a go-green effort during the 2013 fortnight, working with a new sponsor to cut down the ecological footprint of the clay-court grand slam. The tournament has become the first international event based in France to receive ISO 20121 certification, a standard relating to sustainable development field.

 

Soderling Looking Forward To Returning To The Tour

Two-time French Open finalist Robin Soderling, who has not played since 2011 because of mononucleosis, is still looking to return to tour.

 

Petkovic Is Cautiously Optimistic In Her Future

Andrea Petkovic is thrilled by the sudden return of tennis form which has taken her into the semi-finals of the French Open. The German who missed the entire 2012 season after a January knee injury in Perth at the Hopman Cup, said that once she made a return, it was still tough going to regain her form.

 

Television Personalities To Play For A Spot In US Open

This year, two TV  personalities, LuAnn de Lesseps and Jill Zarin of Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of New York City,” will each vie for a chance to compete in the US Open—by playing mixed doubles in the 2014 US Open National Playoffs USTA Eastern Sectional Qualifying Tournament.

U.S. Promotions Director, Wilson Racquet Sports    

Wilson is currently seeking a Promotions Director will develop and execute grassroots strategies and consumer programs to drive our brand and business with our targeted consumer.  This role will manage promotional programs and partnerships to drive consumer engagement through our various trade & consumer key business drivers.  The Director will drive our day-to-day “in the field” sell-thru / sell-out actions working in collaboration with the GTM organization.  Specific duties may include:

  • Develop and execute regional and national grassroots events and programs that target our key consumers and fit within the established business plan

  • Plan, coordinate and execute day to day consumer events and activities to drive sell-thru / sell-out aligned to brand strategy and GTM activities

  • Ensure targeted programs / partnerships / plans integrated into overall grassroots / consumer strategies

  • Oversee budgets / tracking to ensure maximum return on promotional investment

  • Work with stakeholders throughout the organization to build consensus and enthusiasm around major initiatives and gather collaborative feedback across functions (particularly sales/customer marketing) to align objectives, improve execution and maximize in-market impact

  • Continue to develop new and creative promotional concepts
  • Work in conjunction with the area sales teams to ensure that marketing initiatives and programs are leveraged across the sales channel and the brand image is brought to life

  • Qualified candidates should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field, and (7) years strong experience in brand marketing and/or grassroots/promotions, including (3) years directly managing teams and/or indirectly leading cross-functional teams.  
Other qualifications include:

  • Varsity tennis player or avid tennis enthusiast

  • Strong understanding of brand management, including the ability to understand the intangible representation of a brand

  • Demonstrated strategic thinker with ability to create competitive strategies and plans

  • Proven analytical, problem solving and strategic planning ability

  • Results-oriented with solid analytical skills and business acumen

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills; ability to communicate and work effectively across regions and cultures in a highly matrix environment

  • Ability to travel 30%

USTA New England Executive Director

USTA New England is seeking a dynamic and proven leader to serve as Executive Director. Headquartered in Westborough, Massachusetts, the Executive Director (ED) will work with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, partners and all stakeholders to implement USTA New England policies, execute the Strategic Plan provided by the Board, manage the day-to-day operations, and carry forth our mission to promote and develop the growth of tennis. 

The Organization

USTA New England (USTANE), a 501(C)4 nonprofit organization, is one of 17 sections of the United States Tennis Association (USTA), the national governing body for the sport of tennis. The USTA owns and operates the US Open, the largest annually attended sporting event in the world, and the 94 Pro Circuit events through the US.  It selects the teams for the Davis Cup, Fed Cup, Olympic and Paralympic teams.  With 772,000 members, USTA invests 100% of its proceeds to promote and develop the growth of tennis, from the grassroots to the professional level.

Founded in 1927 as the New England Lawn Tennis Association, USTANE now serves more than 34,000 individual members, 500 organizational members, and 475 volunteers.   With a $3 million budget and staff of 18, USTANE increases participation in the sport in New England by offering quality recreational and competitive programs for people of all ages and abilities.

Key Responsibilities and Focus Areas for the Executive Director

Leadership

§  Work closely with the Board, State Associations, staff and stakeholders to effectively implement and execute USTANE's Strategic Plan

§  Provide services and resources to manage all programs and opportunities to promote, develop and grow the game of tennis

§  Create and develop new strategies that will lead the organization to the next level of growth and increase tennis participation in New England

§  Serve as an advocate and spokesperson for USTANE

§  Represent USTANE at USTA National Meetings, Executive Directors Meetings, and with State Associations, partners, and all stakeholders throughout New England

Management

§  Take responsibility for the overall business operations of USTANE, including program development and delivery, marketing, financial and budget administration, supervision of staff, and implementation of the Strategic Plan

§  Demonstrate effective communication, collaboration, and team building

§  Manage and develop a high-performing team and foster growth and development among the staff

§  Provide essential support, training and leadership to all staff in executing and achieving goals and objectives

Partnerships

§     Collaborate and build key relationships internally and externally, with staff, members and volunteers

§  Cultivate existing and future Board member relationships and fully engage with Board leadership and governance structure

§  Build and maintain sustainable partnerships between USTANE and the constituencies it serves

§  Work with USTA National Office and ensure USTANE's compliance with all obligations
