Newly crowned Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic is the first man to qualify for this year's calendar ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals and the reinstated world no.1 from Serbia is perfectly placed to defend the title he won at the London 02 Arena for the third time last November.

Currently five of the seven other available places are filled by players who contested the event a year ago but Grigor Dimitrov and Kei Nishikori are in the line to play for the first time.

However with the US Open and four Masters 1000 events still to be played, four of the places are likely to be extremely competitive when it comes to qualifying over the next three and a half months.

Tomas Berdych currently stands in fifth place on the Race to London with 3050 points and below him there are six players within little more than 800 points.

Six times winner Roger Federer is handily placed to contest the event for the 13th consecutive year but London organizers will be concerned that Andy Murray, who missed the tournament last year while recuperating from back surgery, could again miss out. The Scot who has dropped down to tenth spot in the world rankings, currently only stands in seventh on the Race.
