GULLIKSON AND BASSETT-SEGUSO JOIN COURIER AND NOVOTNA FOR ATP FOUNDATION CUP DOUBLES EXIBITION

NEWPORT, RI --- The International Tennis Hall of Fame has added Tom Gullikson and Carling Bassett-Seguso to the line-up of Jim Courier and Jana Novotna to the special doubles exhibition that will be played on Sunday, July 10. An ATP Foundation Cup event, the exhibition will be held at 10:00am on Bill Talbert Center Court at the International Tennis Hall of Fame. This doubles exhibition event is in conjunction with the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships and the Class of 2005 Induction Weekend.

As a professional tennis player from 1976-1986, Gullikson reached the 1983 Wimbledon doubles final with his twin brother Tim, and won the 1984 US Open mixed doubles title with Manuela Maleeva. Gullikson has played on the senior tennis tour since 1986, winning three US Open master's singles titles, two senior Wimbledon doubles titles (with brother Tim in 1987 and Brian Gottfried in 1999), and claimed five master's doubles titles with Dick Stockton. In 1996 he was the U.S. Olympic tennis coach at the Atlanta games guiding Andre Agassi to the gold medal.

Carling Bassett-Seguso played on the women’s pro tennis circuit 1983-1991. In her 9-year career, she captured 3 singles titles and 2 doubles titles. In the 1983 WTA Championships, at age 16, Bassett reached the final and took Chris Evert to 3 sets, falling 7-5 in the third. Also in 1983, she was named the WTA Most Impressive Newcomer. Hailing from Canada, she was voted Canada’s Female Athlete of the Year in both 1983 and 1985, and was a member of the Canadian Fed Cup team 1982-1987.

Bassett-Seguso and Gullikson join Jim Courier, a former world No. 1 ranked player and winner of 23 singles titles, and Jana Novotna, winner of 24 singles titles and 76 doubles titles. Both Courier and Novotna will be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame on Saturday.

The ATP Foundation Cup was inaugurated last year during the Hall of Fame’s 50th Anniversary Celebration and is expected to continue yearly as a special tennis exhibition during Hall of Fame Induction Weekend.
