Fairfield Mens Pro Challenger Tennis News

The last match of first round singles of the main draw concluded Wednesday and the singles second round at the Fairfield Men’s Pro Challenger presented by Francis Ford Coppola Winery.

Today spectators were served up the much anticipated outcome of last night’s suspended match between top seed Tim Smyczek and fellow American Marcus Krueger, as Smyczek took a third set and match win, with a final score of 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-3. Last night’s suspension was due to the court visibility and lighting issues brought up by Smyczek as Krueger was up 3-1 in the deciding set.

Smyczek will go on to face the formidable Taylor Fritz in the second round feature match tomorrow at 4pm. 17 year old Fritz is the singles champion of last week’s Sacramento $100K Challenger and is currently ranked the No. 1 junior in the world following a stunning 2015 Slam run earning the French Open boys’ singles runner up spot and claiming the US Open Boy’s singles title last month.

Other notable match wins by Americans include No 5 seed Jacob Donaldson over Canadian Frank Dancevic  (2-6, 6-2, 6-3), and Frances Tiafoe over James McGee of Ireland in straight sets.

The Fairfield Men’s Pro Challenger resumes tomorrow at 11am, with the afternoon feature match now beginning not before 4pm.
The tournament, which is a $50K USTA Pro Circuit and ATP Challenger event, is the last of three men’s USTA Challenger events that swing through northern California, with proceeds to benefit the Chris Cammisa Tennis and Education Foundation (CCTEF).
