Caroline Wozniacki Tennis News

Caroline Wozniacki almost pulled out of the new WTA Elite Trophy in Zhuhai, China, but in the last moment, she said OK.

The $2,150,000 tournament will include the top players 9-20, but not every player will go to the tournament, such as Venus Williams, who will refuse to play even though she will be fined. The tournament will begin November 2.

Wozniacki told Ekstra Bladet that she isn’t thrilled having to return back to China, but she will go anyway. She doesn’t like fines. She is currently in Europe, after coming back after Wuhan and Beijing, China.

In August, the 25 year old was upset that she had to try and play in Toronto even though she was hurt and she shouldn’t have gone on court.

However, if Wozniacki pulled out, she claims that if she did, she would have been hit by a major fine.

The former No. 1 said that in China, she didn’t want to lose a huge amount of money.

“I took a day where I thought, ‘Can I motivate myself enough to play the tournament and can I work through in these weeks leading up to it,” she said.

“If I felt that I was too tired, I would skip. But I would like to give it one last try.”

Wozniacki has said that during Asia, a number of the top players were hurt, including Simona Halep, Maria Sharapova and Petra Kvitova. All are scheduled to play the WTA Finals in Singapore, but few players are extremely healthy.

“When we go to Asia late in the season, and you feel tired, you can feel that you need a little extra zest,” Wozniacki said. “There were also many sick player and injured who had to withdrew from tournaments in Asia.”

Some others players who could play in Zhuhai are Belinda Bencic, Roberta Vinci and Ana Ivanovic, among others.

Wozniacki will play an exhibition match against Serena Williams in Herning, Denmark on November 26.
