No. 3 seed Irina Falconi put a halt to qualifier Jamie Loebs hopes of reaching the semifinals of the 2016 Dow Corning Tennis Classic after a tough three set match late this evening.

The only remaining seed had a slow start as Loeb powered through her and played an aggressive  baseline game. Loeb was able to convert three out of six break points and took the opening set 7-5 in forty-five minutes.

In the second set, Falconi improved upon her service games and won a quick four games in a row. This quickly helped her gain back her confidence and she fought back, taking the second set 6-3.

In the final and decisive set, Falconi kept her momentum going converting three out of four break
points and was quickly able to close the match out just shy of two hours with a final score of 5-7,
6-3, 6-2.

Falconi currently holds a singles ranking of No. 76 in the world and currently holds five singles titles
and three doubles titles on the ITF Women’s Circuit. Falconi most recently reached the second
round of the Australian Open where she lost to No. 13 seed 2015 US Open finalist Roberta Vinci.
Falconi’s next test will be wild card Robin Anderson. Anderson defeated qualifier Alexandra Sanford
5-7, 7-6(5), 6-4, earlier in the day. The semifinal match-up will take place tomorrow evening at
6:00pm.

In our other semifinal, American Shelby Rogers takes on doubles partner Naomi Broady in what is
set to be a blockbuster match! The two take to the court immediately following the 12:00pm doubles
semifinal.
