Dow Corning Tennis NewsNaomi Broady defeated wild card Robin Anderson, 6-7(6), 6-0, 6-2 to claim the singles title at the 2016 Dow Corning Tennis Classic.

It took the big serving Brit just over three hours to close out a tough and grueling match. In the first set, both players rallied at the baseline with Anderson playing defensive tennis. In the tie break, Broady became visibly upset after questioning a line call.

Anderson closed out the tie break 8-6.

In the second and third sets, Broady found momentum and it became much of a one sided match.

At 4-2 in the final and decisive set, Broady fired in her fifteenth ace of the match taking a 5-2 lead.

Anderson was unable to hold serve and Broady claimed the title.

With the win, Broady will now move into the top 100 on the WTA Tour for the first time in her career.

She now holds eight singles titles and thirteen doubles titles on the ITF Women’s Circuit and most notably reached the quarterfinals of the ASB Classic in Auckland, Australia losing to eventual champion Sloane Stephens just last month.

In the doubles final, wild cards CiCi Bellis and Ingrid Neel defeated No. 2 seeds Naomi Broady and Shelby Rogers, 6-2, 6-4. The teenage duo powered through the top three seeds to claim their first doubles title together. Bellis’ only other doubles title came nearly two years ago in 2014 when her and partner Alexis Nelson defeated Sally Peers and Natalie Pluskota 6-2, 0-6, 11-9 in the finals of a $10,000 ITF Women’s Circuit event in Orlando, FL.

The ladies now get a week off before heading to Surprise, AZ for a $25,000 ITF Women’s Circuit event. Expected Dow Corning Tennis Classic competitors include Mayo Hibi, CiCi Bellis, and Asia Muhammad.
