Ivo Karlovic served his way into tennis history as he rained down 26 aces to break the all-time career ATP record for untouchable serves. The mighty Croatian came up a 7-6(5), 7-6(6) loser to Pablo Cuevas at the China Open but established a new mark all the same.

He broke through the barrier of 10,237 aces held by Goran Ivanisevic, a fellow Croatian ace machine who played two decades ago who now coaches Marin Cilic.

Karlovic moved 10 aces clear of the historical mark (on 10,247), and is now averaging 24 aces per match in 2015 for a season total of 1,202 and counting. In a Halle quarter-final win over Tomas Berdych last June, he hammered 45 aces, the most ever in a best-of-three-set match.

The 36-year-old Karlovic won his sixth career title last February at Delray Beach to become the oldest champion since Jimmy Connors, then 37, won Tel Aviv in 1989.

While Karlovic has set a new standard, the record he broke is a relatively new one, with ace counts only being kept on the ATP since 1991. The total includes aces served in main draw ATP and grand slam matches, with Davis Cup aces not counted.
