All Seeds Advance Tuesday at Texas Tamale Company Houston Cup

After seeing four of the top seeds in singles, including two of the top three eliminated on the first day of the inaugural event 2014, form held true in 2015 as all seeded entries in both singles and doubles advanced in first day of action at the Texas Tamale Company Houston Cup at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on the campus of Rice University in Houston on Wednesday.

Seven singles matches and the complete first round of doubles were completed on Tuesday.  Third seeded Deiton Baughman of the United States was the highest seeded singles player in action and he downed Adam Gustavsson, Sweden, 6-3, 6-2.  He was joined in advancing by fourth seed Thales Turini, Brazil, who downed Daniel Garza of Mexico in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0 and sixth seed Wil Spencer, United States who needed three sets to move past Manuel Sanchez of Mexico, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.

Wild card entry Nathaniel Lammons of the United States also advanced, downing Kaichi Uchida of Japan, 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles action, all four seeds advanced to the quarterfinals, three of them in straight sets.

Top seeds Deiton Baughman of the United States and Hans Hach of Mexico dropped Mateo Andres Ruiz Naranjo and Pedro Pablo Ruiz Naranjo of Columbia 6-2, 6-2.  Second seeds Tigre Hank of Mexico and  Manuel Sanchez of Mexico breezed by  Michael Antoine Gad of the United States and Ian O’Jon of the United States 6-1, 6-2.  Fourth seeds Vitali Reshetnikov of Russia  and Mikhail Vaks of Russia bested Eric Quigley of the United States and  Chad Rhoden of the United States, 6-3, 6-3.

Third seeds Patrick Davidson of the United States and Matt Reid of Australia shook off a first set loss to Joel Vincent Link of Germany and  Aron Pierce of the United States to advance,  4-6, 6-4 (10-5).

Play resumes on Wednesday with singles play up first. Opening matches begin at 10 a.m.
