The US Open is the most profitable of the four Grand Slams and is now set for even higher earnings.

The tournament, which saw attendance of 688,162 this year, will have bigger crowds and anticipates more sponsorship deals as it completes its renovation of the national tennis center. The new facilities will allow 100,000 more tickets to be sold, USTA official Lew Sherr told Forbes, and more televised courts will also increase the value of media rights.

He also projected significant “growth with our sponsorship.” The tournament has filled its top level partnerships, signing American Express, Emirates and JPMorgan Chase. But it has added four new mid-level sponsors, including Jacob’s Creek, and Mondel.

“Brands like Emirates and Lavazza have recognized how powerful tennis is as a way to reach a global audience, a gender neutral audience, an incredibly affluent and well educated audience on a global scale,” he said.

According to figures cited by the publication, attendees are 43 percent male and 57 percent female, with an average $161,000 income per household among those.

The tournament will 2also double its previous $65 million in TV rights earnings. More than half of watchers are from other countries, with the tournament broadcast in 201 countries.
