Dow Corning Tennis News

After a full day of tennis, six Americans advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2016 Dow Corning Tennis Classic.

In the highly anticipated match-up of CiCi Bellis and Robin Anderson, both players came out on to
the court with confidence with Bellis taking an early lead, winning 13 out of the first 14 points. Anderson
quickly found her rhythm and evened up the match before ultimately winning the first set 7-5.

In the second set, Anderson continued on her momentum and converted four out of five break
points, helping her close out the match, 7-5, 6-3.

When asked about her keys to winning the match Anderson said, “Maybe she felt like she had to
go for more because I was making her play a lot of balls”, and that she was happy with the way she
played.

Anderson will now face off against qualifier Alexandra Sanford, who beat Alexa Glatch 6-4 in the first
set before retiring due to injury.

Speaking of qualifiers, Jamie Loeb defeated No. 5 seed Lauren Davis 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 in an epic three set
match. With the win, Loeb notched her first win over a Top 100 player.

Speaking with media after her win, Loeb told Johnathan Kelley of “On the Rise” that “I’m really happy
and proud of myself for that. I definitely think this tournament has given me a lot of confidence
and belief that I can play at this level, capable of beating these girls.”

Loeb’s next challenge will be fellow NCAA star Irina Falconi. Falconi defeated Lauren Albanese 6-1,
6-1, after playing bold and audacious tennis.

Mayo Hibi, Madison Brengle, Shelby Rogers, and Naomi Broady also advanced after being tested by
their opponents. Quarterfinal play gets underway at 10am Friday.
