Veteran tennis observer Alex Corretja remains unworried as countryman Rafael Nadal works to exit from another crisis. Corretja, a former world No. 2, said that Nadal’s recent title on clay in Hamburg will only help to bolster his confidence as he tackles the demanding hardcourts at the Montreal Masters next week as his run-up to the US Open begins.

Corretja, a former Spanish Davis Cup captain and one-time clay advisor to Andy Murray, said that comebacks from injury have always ben a part of the Nadal career. he adds there is nothing special about this one, which has seen the 14-time grand slam winner drop to tenth in the world before climbing back to his current ninth standing.

“After a long pause, you need time to gain your rhythm, to build one match at a time,” Corretja told Swiss media. ” Because of the time he spent away from competition, Rafael has lost his ability to play the most important points at his best.

“But that is normal. Nadal has no serious issue. He just needs a lot of matches to regain his strength. Thus I think playing in Hamburg was a good decision for him.”

Nadal has engineered comeback on several occasions, including a return in 2013 after injury in 2012, which produced 10 titles after seven months of inactivity.
