Singles – Second Round: (2) Petra Kvitova def. Madison Keys 4-6 6-1 6-2 Petra Kvitova’s serve was not working at all in this match, and that’s a very big handicap for her. It caused her to blow a bunch of match points on serve. She had only one ace in the match, and that came in the first set, which she lost. But she did an impressive job of fighting through it. She is still well behind Caroline Wozniacki in the contest for #4, but she keeps herself in the hunt. She leaves Madison Keys still at #19.

Singles – Second Round: (3) Caroline Wozniacki (WC) def. (Q) Roberta Vinci 6-4 6-7(6-8) 7-6(9-7) One way or the other, the clock was going to turn back in this match. Either Caroline Wozniacki would turn it back to the days when she owned this tournament, or Roberta Vinci would turn it back a couple of years to the time when she was threatening the Top Ten. Vinci came very close — she had two match points, one of them on her serve, in the third set tiebreak. But Vinci was not doing very well on second serves, and she hit a lot of them in that final tiebreak, and it cost her; she will remain below the Top Forty.

Singles – Second Round: (5) Karolina Pliskova def. (Q) Olga Savchuk 6-4 6-1 Karolina Pliskova hasn’t looked too good in the last few weeks, but facing an opponent ranked below #200 obviously helps. It doesn’t help her ranking, though; Pliskova has so many events that she needs a final for it to count, and a title to move in the rankings.

Singles – Second Round: (7) Agnieszka Radwanska (WC) def. Alize Cornet 6-4 6-2 This was a lot tougher than the score, but it ends with Alize Cornet still stuck at #27. Agnieszka Radwanska still hasn’t added any points; she needs a final to rise in the rankings.

Doubles – Quarterfinal: Chuang/Liang def. Hrdinova/Melichar 1-6 6-4 10-6
