Andy Murray Tennis News

Andy Murray has become the father of a baby girl, the BBC reported, with the broadcaster quoting the player’s grandmother to confirm the news.

The report says that the infant was born to the world No. 2 player’s wife Kim Sears on Sunday night, but no formal announcement or tweet has yet come from the new parents.

The birth was said to have occurred a week after Murray lost his fifth final at the Australian Open, going down to Novak Djokovic and hopping a jet in Melbourne only a few hours after coming off court.

The BBC quoted Murray’s grandmother Shirley Erskine in Scotland as saying she is pleased with the arrival of a granddaughter.

“I am absolutely delighted, as you can imagine. It seems a long time that we’ve been waiting for this but all’s well now as far as I know,” she told the broadcaster. “I don’t have any details I just know that I’ve got a great granddaughter so that is just lovely.

“All I could think of after Andy had finished playing his final [in the Australian Open] was ‘Oh good, at least he’ll get home now’. It’s not easy getting home from Australia. He couldn’t have been further away. Fortunately, he was home in plenty of time and all’s well.”

Erskine said she got the news through a text sent by Murray.
