Former player James Blake was
pondering his next move after being tackled to the
ground and later surrounded by five plainclothes New
York police outside the official US Open hotel in what
was a case of mistaken identity.

Competition

Rafael Nadal will make a welcome
return to the Spanish Davis Cup side next weekend when
the tennis power plays a lower-tier tie against Denmark
in hopes of regaining respectability and an eventual
return to the World Group.

Roberta Vinci can hardly believe
her good fortune in being the player who provides the
obstacle to Serena Williams completing the Grand Slam.

 

Great Britain Surprised With
Australia’s Choice Of Doubles Team In Davis Cup Tie

Although Britain has two players
through to today’s US Open men’s doubles semi-finals,
Australian captain Wally Masur has again decided against
his highest ranked player in the two-a-side game for
next week’s Davis Cup World Group semi-final in Glasgow.
And the Brits think he’s missed a trick.

 

Anderson Honored By USTA

The USTA announced that Kevin
Anderson has received the fifth annual US Open
Sportsmanship Award presented to the professional tennis
player who best demonstrates excellence in sportsmanship
throughout the Emirates Airline US Open Series and the
US Open. The award was presented to him by USTA
Sportsmanship Selection Committee Chairman Todd Martin.
