The first year of ESPN’s start-to-finish broadcast of the US Open saw good viewership of the event. Ratings for the Sunday evening men’s final reached a 2.4, up from 1.9 for the Monday final on CBS the previous year. The start of the match between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer was delayed by three hours, putting it up against football on other networks.

The rating was below the 2.8 received by CBS for the 2013 final between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.

The surprise women’s final between Flavia Pennetta and Roberta Vinci was a 1.5, lower than the Sunday meeting on CBS between Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki, which got a 4-0 rating the previous year. However, ESPN got a 4.8 for the quarterfinal meeting between Serena and Venus Williams, the second-highest for a tennis match on the network.

The network is paying more than $77 million a year to show the tournament.
