The ATP event at Vienna has secured a long-term sanction for a 500-level event, tournament organizers announced.

Previously a 250 event, it had bought a 500 license from the Valencia tournament, which has now been extended.

Following what was called a “labor intensive and lengthy process” by tournament organizer Herwig Straka, the Erste Bank Open will retain its new status while Valencia drops to the 250 level.

The tournament will install a new mid-pace court and use Tretorn balls. David Ferrer, Milos Raonic and Gael Monfils are some of the top players entered at the event.

Ticket sales are said to be going well, with few left for the semifinals and quarterfinals.
