Valencia Open Tennis News

One hundred people work every day since last September 22nd at the new court, which will be in perfect conditions for the start of the tournament

A team of 100 people is working and building the structure of the court: grandstand, tennis court, court roof, lighting, ventilation and services for the main court at the Valencia Open, in order to have the best conditions to enjoy some of the best players from next Saturday, October 24.

The new space is specially designed for the tournament, with all details to offer the best view for fans. It has 80 spotlights, a specific ventilation system for indoor tournaments, six strategic areas for television cameras and press area with 4 cabins and TV set. Also as every year, there will be VIP boxes with capacity for 196 seats and 162 VIP Gold, plus 278 Gold Tickets in the grandstand, 28 seats in the Presidential Tribune and 20 more locations for the disabled.

We should not forget that Generalitat Valenciana notified us that it is not possible to locate the center court at the Agora building, as usual since 2009. For this reason, the main court of the Valencia Open, just for this year, it will be located in the indoor facility to be placed on a provisional basis and especially for the occasion.

The new court will have a capacity of 3,700 spectators and will be located where the court 1 used to be, on the Fun Park. Valencia Open’s Director, Juan Carlos Ferrero, explains the situation: “Despite the difficulties we have found this year, we are preparing a fantastic tournament for the fans with great players playing in a first level court and with affordable prices for the tickets”. We will have more than 800 people working during the tournament, including the organization’s staff, volunteers, drivers, line umpires, ball kids, security, cleaning, catering, suppliers, etc.

Once the facility is finished, during the week before the tournament starts, the new center court will have the same measures as the Agora (50 x 70 meters) and a height of 14 meters (over ATP regulation, which requires that height reaches 12 meters). The construction of the court has been in charge of the company GreenSet, structure is made by Rent a todo, and the stands by Nussli.
