University of Virginia senior, Ryan Shane, lost in a opening- round match against fellow American, Sekou Bangoura. Bangoura needed just 1 hour and 2 minutes to close out the match 6-3, 6-2.

While Shane fired in an impressive five aces, his serve was also arguably his biggest weakness. He gave up eleven double faults and only won 16% of his second service points. Shane was later seen on the practice courts working on his serves after the home-court loss.

On the other hand, the world-ranked No. 373 Bangoura, played a consistent match converting five out of 10 break points. Bangoura will now play the face No. 3 seed Tim Smyczek in the second round.

Shane, a native of Falls Church, Va., was the NCAA Singles Champion for 2014-2015 season. He currently holds a No. 2 preseason singles and doubles ranking for the 2015-2016 season and recently competed in the first round of the US Open this past September, losing to No. 27 seed Jeremy Chardy 6-2, 6-1, 6-7, 6-2.

Cavaliers will be in action in both singles and doubles tomorrow. On the singles side, Senior Mac Styslinger takes on Mitchell Krueger in the afternoon, while Sophomore Collin Altamirano will face qualifier Stefan Kozlov in one of the featured evening matches.

In doubles, Ryan Shane is back in action, pairing with junior Luca Corinteli to take on Bjorn Fratangelo and Joshua Milton.
